David Jacobson

David graduated from University of Michigan with a B.A. concentration in psychobiology. He then attended New Jersey Institute of Technology where he received an M.S. degree in biomedical engineering, with work focused on the intersection of biomechanics, prostheses and material science. While studying for his master’s degree David gained hands-on engineering experience in biomedical engineering and materials science at a small medical device manufacturer.

After leaving engineering, David attended law school at George Washington University. While attending law school, David clerked at the International Trade Commission in the Office of Unfair Import Investigations where he was involved in matters under Section 337 of the Tariff Act and various issues of patent and trade secret law.

David now works with clients of all sizes, including Fortune 500 companies, smaller established companies, start-ups, and individuals, to manage their intellectual property. David drafts and prosecutes patent applications, defends post-grant review actions against client rights, and prepares and prosecutes post-grant review actions to challenge third-party rights. David analyzes issues related to infringement and invalidity, and prepares legal opinions regarding client and third-party rights. David also provides full trademark counseling, including searching, analyzing, protecting, and defending client marks. David negotiates and drafts agreements for all types of intellectual property, as well.

David’s practice involves U.S. and foreign clients in numerous industries. However, David has particular experience assisting clients in the medical device field, and is attentive to the opportunities available to and challenges faced by such clients.
